Killingworth Lakeside Park will have a new cafe by 2027 as part of a wider set of investments. Next year, North Tyneside Council will have installed a new cafe, covering almost 98m2, in the popular green space. Now the council is looking for a tenant to take on the prospective spot for £7,000 a year, though an initial free period could be negotiated.
The eatery is expected to be equipped with a kitchen, IT facilities, and toilets. A tenant must be open for business at least five days a week from April 1 to October 31, from 10am to 4pm. This includes all weekends, bank holidays, and school holidays, although trading times outside those dates and times can be made in agreement with the council.
Any future tenant is also expected to provide space for community groups based within the park as and when required. Expressions of interest can now be submitted to North Tyneside Council.
Councillor Carl Johnson, North Tyneside’s Deputy Mayor, said: “Killingworth Lakeside Park is an award-winning public space that is much-loved by residents and visitors, and we have ambitious plans to make it even better.
“As part of those plans, we are now inviting expressions of interest from potential operators for a proposed new café in the park. This is an exciting opportunity to create a welcoming new facility in a fantastic location, and we would encourage interested businesses and organisations to find out more and come forward.
“The café is part of our wider investment in the park, shaped by the ideas and feedback local people shared with us. The proposals include improvements to play facilities, walking and cycling routes, seating, landscaping, and biodiversity.
“This investment is an important part of our ambition for the north west of the borough and our commitment to creating neighbourhoods that are clean, green and safe, and that we can all be proud of.”
