This has been a tough year for many, with the back-end of the covid pandemic and cost-of-living crisis. This winter The People’s Kitchen is looking to supply a warm meal and some festive joy to those in real need with the 2022 Christmas Feed a Friend For a Fiver campaign.

At The People’s Kitchen, demand has risen astronomically since the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis. The kitchen, which is run entirely by unpaid volunteers, is now serving more than double the number of meals every day. On an average evening, over 250 meals are being served to people in the North East who need support. Clothes, toiletries, bedding, and household essentials are also provided.

Maggie Pavlou, trustee at the People’s Kitchen said:

“Feed A Friend For A Fiver campaign is fabulous for us. If someone can donate to us £5, that will allow us to provide a hot, really tasty, three-course Christmas dinner for one of our friends on Christmas Day. Our friends rely on us so when they get here, we can provide them with some food, somewhere warm, a bit of a sanctuary and they can have a rest for a few hours.”

If you are familiar with The People’s Kitchen, you will already know that they have conducted an annual homeless campaign for many years. In 2020, The People’s Kitchen was forced to run a Christmas delivery service due to the Covid- 19 restrictions. This year, they are once again able to open our doors – meaning those in need of a Christmas Day meal can enjoy it in a warm and friendly environment.

How you can help

As part of the Feed a Friend for a Fiver campaign – you can donate just £5 to provide a three-course Christmas day meal to someone less fortunate. You can also make more than one donation if you wish, and there is also the option to select a monthly donation to help the charity all year round.

With homelessness and mental health issues significantly increasing since the start of the pandemic and cost-of-living-crisis, it really is more important than ever for our community to come together as one. Should The People’s Kitchen raise more than needed for the Christmas Day campaign, the money will be spent on providing service users with warm clothes and warm food over the winter period.

Relying on the North East community

Chris Tubman from NEOffers.co.uk said: “Christmas is a special time of year where people who are struggling undoubtedly struggle more. We’ve pledged to help the People’s Kitchen once again this year.”

“With the pandemic and now the cost-of-living crisis we have all seen how anyone can find themselves in need who never thought they would ever struggle and hopefully given a lot more compassion for those who are struggling in our community.

We are again relying on the amazing North East community to come together this Christmas – everyone deserves a warm meal and warm surroundings especially at Christmas.”

As well as donating, your help is needed in spreading awareness for this campaign. A simple share on social media may not sound a lot but it can help raise funds massively.
