If people ask me what I enjoy reading, I will strongly say Robert Greene’s book 48 Laws of Power. So what is it? Let’s find out.

So, who is Robert Greene? He is an Jewish American writer, author of seven books, which are 48 Laws of Power, The Art of Seduction, 33 Strategies of War, Mastery, The Laws of Human Nature, The 50th Law and The Daily Laws. All of these books are widely known, in every corner of the world. But among them, 48 Laws of Power is considered to be the most popular one, as it was Robert Greene’s first success.

48 Laws of Power

I first read this book in 2022. A friend of mine gave it to me because I was curious and as soon as I grabbed it, I was fascinated by its cover. The theme colour was light orange, with a dark blue stripe, which had the word “Power” on it, placed in the middle of the cover. Even though I’m not a person who easily gets attracted by colours, that moment was exceptional. But that was not the main reason why I started to love the book series.

Moving onto the content of the book, I was getting even more exhilarated, as the pages drove me crazy. The words, the lines, the structure of the pages surprised me because they all showed the uniqueness of this writer. I could figure out that Robert Greene is a person who loved studying history combined with psychology of human nature. For each page I flipped, I could see that they all had one structure in common: the content was in the middle of the page, and they were covered by little pieces of stories, which was really uncommon compared to other books I have read.

Demystifying sophisticated emotions

Following this, I read it for as long as I could, as my friend needed the book back as soon as possible. The longer I read, the more I felt excited. This book was not a theoretical book at all, it even contained some real-life tips on actual events. I found some matters about human nature hard to interpret, but Robert Greene helped me with that. He had such an ability to look through human’s sophisticated emotions and then demystify them into easy – to – digest rules, lessons for the readers. After reading it for a while, I understood that the reason why he stood out as well as his book was the distinctive yet appealing way of organising the book along with the content. He was able to explain what others couldn’t, did what others didn’t and realized what he could call “his Life’s Task”. In other words, he knew his personality well, he knew what he had to do in order to achieve his Life’s Task. He even occupied a niche that no one had ever imagined, which was then followed by Ryan Holiday, his former research assistant.

To sum up, It wasn’t the same as other self – help books, nor historical books. I would rather say that book was like a combination of both self – help and historical events. I always enjoy it whenever I have it to hand, anywhere I go. It’s a must-read for anyone who wants to be wary of the dangerous world and save themself from external dangers.
