Salt & Smoke is an immersive theatrical journey through Blyth’s history, weaving together 500 years of stories in a theatrical adventure that transforms the town centre into a stage. Audiences will meet at the Market Place in Blyth and be given a map before setting off in small groups to encounter characters and moments from Blyth’s past: the salt trade, the rise of commerce, its golden age of cinema, and more. It is produced by Novo Theatre, and it runs from Friday 26 September to Sunday 28 September 2025.
The cast includes Freddie Barrett, Matthew Bryant, Micky Cochrane, Melanie Dagg, Darcy Lauren, Anna Mullak, Bob Nicholson, Jackie Phillips, and the show is written and directed by Joe Hufton.
Performance details and access
The performance lasts around an hour, covering a one-mile route that is fully wheelchair accessible. It has been created as part of Blyth Celebrates, a cultural programme running through to March 2026.
There will be BSL interpretation available on Sunday 28 September at 2.45pm and 4.45pm.
