Went to a meeting tonight about our local beaches which have recently been covered in tons of plastic nurdles, dumped into the Tyne following a collision between a ship and a dock crane…and the gulls (and it’s safe to assume fish also) are now eating said nurdles.

One thing acknowledged by the experts tonight was that without Brexit, it wouldn’t have happened. That awful EU, you see, had laws preventing this hazardous substance being shipped to EU members in the way it was shipped here. Too dangerous, see. Good ol’ Nige and his loyal followers, looking after the ordinary folk of this great nation by getting rid of useless EU bureaucracy …

and here comes another one
just like the other one
bobbing up and down
a reliable dance

pretty petty little nurdles
all washed up on the sand
waving fists at strangers
and their dangerous friends

come here to displace us
but let’s agree on this one thing:
it’s not about race, right
cos he’s got a friend with shaded skin

or at least they once were close
before she went all woke
crying at his hurty words
though he told her it’s just a joke

so mr nurdle head sweeps by the beach
past the piles and miles of plastic
the ones that haven’t ended
up in the belly of a cod fish

to fester and grow old
but never ever quite die
tenner clasped tight in his sweaty fist,
he nurdles inside for his fish and chips
