She has taken what is mine
Overcast her shadow
As I tiptoe across the line
That she has strung for me to follow.
Is it love or insanity,
That lets me touch him still so gently?
As my heart is breaking in my chest
Yet I suffer still in solidarity.
They say love makes you mad
Yet she defines madness
And I cannot understand
Why when I look at him my heart aches
How can her smile shine so bright?
Endear all those who witness it
Yet I must fill my head and cheeks
With glitter from a palette
For I cannot exist with such elegance and beauty
As she who I can’t bear to name withholds it all so effortlessly.
Maybe I won’t win,
But still I can compete,
To watch her dance across the finish line
While I stand a mile behind
Wishing for what could’ve been mine
With sore and blistered feet.
