Follow the voices of your imagination … is probably the best advice you can give to children; to think, to create, to wonder, to feel.
And what a creation – Wintry Tales: Snow Covered Maps and Mountainous Mayhem – as local performers Maya Torres and Hannah Walker take us on a wondrous journey through imagination and friendship meeting penguins, witches and pirates along the way.
Local writer Lisette Auton took ideas workshopped with primary-age children at five local schools and crafted them into stories within a story without losing anything of the essence of pure, joyful play.
It was wonderful, truly wonderful.
Hannah and Maya glowed as they wallowed in a playful pleasure surpassed only by the children in the audience who were glued in an ecstasy and awe as the characters slap-sticked, engaged and interacted with them in hilarity and a pure unadulterated fun.
Full of joy
My girls aged five and seven were jumping in their seats with laughter. “I am so full of joy for the performers,” said the seven-year-old “I loved it too much – this much” as she squeezed my hand where she’d run out of words. Still bouncing, they were repeating lines and laughing to themselves all the way home in the car.
With an age recommendation of 5+ this is a show for primary age children. With hot chocolate and spiced punch in the bar, there is something to warm all the family. Tickets are still available and a family of four can attend at the cost of one adult ticket at some other more commercial seasonal shows; this is an affordable treat for families this Christmas.
