If you think like me that a pizza is just a pizza you might be thinking how can Prezzo, the Italian-themed restaurant give their menu a taste of summer sunshine.
The new additions to the summer menu are not too numerous though they have been carefully thought out with the warmer days in mind that we have been experiencing recently. Come mid-September they will all have disappeared from the menu and summer will seem like a distant memory. However, you still have plenty of time to try them out for yourself.
Starters and sharers
The starters and sharers include new items such as Burrata with tomatoes and pesto, though this dish is not cheap at £8.75. The best value is the new Prezzo Antipasto Board which is ideal for sharing. Priced at £12.75 a delicious selection of Italian cured meats are served with a fresh mozzarella and tomato salad, Italian hummus, house olives and garlic bread.
Mains
The new additions to the mains as far as pizza goes are the Smoked Salmon and Sour Cream Pizza starting at £16.50. This to me sounds like it was created for British palates as when I am in Italy I have never seen anything like this on the menu at any of the pizzerias I have visited.
I tried the new Erba Cipollina pizza which starts at £11.50. The white base made my pizza looks slightly anaemic, I always think pizza looks better with a tomato base, however this particular version comes with fresh Italian mozzarella, sour cream, chives and a generous grind of black pepper. For me the taste was not particularly strong and could have done with another stronger flavour on top to make it better as the black pepper did not really seem to kick in.

Desserts
The dessert menu has also been updated to include Italian Gelato or Sorbetto along with the new Prezzo Chocolate and Cherry Sundae which is priced at £6.95. At 360 calories per serving, it was one of the items on the menu that is kinder to your waistline too!
I thoroughly recommend the Chocolate and Cherry Sundae. The two ingredients go together superbly. It must be popular as they had sold out of the rich chocolate gelato which had to be substituted with chocolate ice cream instead. Topped with whipped cream and two wafers this guilty pleasure deserves to be kept on the menu well into the autumn.

Drinks
A selection of new house wines has been added to the summer menu too as well as a Tiramisu Martini Cocktail. As I was driving I chose the new Cloudy Lemonade which was vibrant and refreshing – perfect for a summer’s day.
