Hexham has been named as the happiest place to live in the UK. This is from the Happy at Home index by Rightmove.

Hexham really is a very beautiful market town in Northumberland. It’s well known for Hexham Abbey,  its pretty shopping streets and its Saturday farmers’ markets.

Local resident, Kim Sanderson said:

“The town is lucky enough to serve large area, so people living here can access great facilities considering it’s quite a small town: an arts centre, abbey, cinema, swimming pool and ten pin bowling. Hexham also has many residents who really care about what goes on here. People put on great events, there’s plenty of music.”

Just opposite the Abbey is the wonderful Queen’s Hall, with its fantastic range of performances. You can read about its current production here.

Hexham beat southern town, Richmond, into second place.

The town was rated best for “community spirit, a feeling of belonging, access to nature and friendly and polite people.”

This is the second time recently that the town has hit the headlines. Boris Johnson was seen visiting the hospital (maskless) but that’s another story…

Well done Hexham!
