Who would have thought that Rishi Sunak could possibly be a worse prime minister than the rogues gallery he followed?
Earlier recent prime ministers
David Cameron was a weak PM, cowed by the anti-EU zealots in the ERG. He was also a coward who exited stage left and left the mess of Brexit to someone else. Let’s not forget he was one of the architects of austerity which has done untold damage to society.
I am going to gloss over Teresa May, because for all her faults, I believe her heart was in the right place. Hostile environment notwithstanding.
Boris Johnson, a narcissistic, lying, and, in my opinion, pathetic PM.
Liz Truss, just out of her depth, incompetent and in the pocket of the IEA.
Integrity, professionalism and accountability?
So when Sunak stood outside Downing Street and promised integrity, professionalism and accountability at all levels of government a tiny part of me looked forward to having a real, functioning government.
Sadly, he has demonstrated time and again that it was just words without substance, without honesty…basically, just words.
It actually appears that he embodies most of the faults of his predecessors. Like Cameron, he seems incredibly weak, unable to rein in the disparate factions within his own party. Like Johnson, he cannot be trusted to tell the truth. Just this week, after taking a crass, disgusting bet regarding the fate of actual human beings, he withdrew from it saying “he wasn’t a betting man”. Unfortunately for him, an interview surfaced where he was talking enthusiastically about ‘spread betting’ He has also been fact checked numerous times, often repeating the same untruth a number of times even after being told to stop.
Like Truss, he is completely out of his depth. For an intelligent man he seems to have minimal ability to pivot or react positively. He has a script, a series of talking points and appears to be unable intellectually to deviate from them.
Sadly he has also added some other bad traits to those of Cameron et al. He appears to have a real issue with interviewers, gets tetchy and short which smacks of arrogance when he gets questioned properly. A sort of ‘who are you to question me, to pull me up, to suggest I am being disingenuous?
Sunak just is not fit to be an MP, never mind PM. A man who as every day goes by he is closer to being a billionaire. How can a person so wealthy that they can afford to upgrade the National Grid just to heat his outdoor swimming pool understand what the average person feels or needs? Never mind what people on or below the breadline are going through.
A while ago I suggested that, with my tongue firmly in my cheek, he had been kidnapped and replaced by a malfunctioning AI being. That joke is becoming more real everyday…how can a genuine human being have zero ability to read a room, an inability to diverge from a script and have zero empathy.
PMQs this week
At PMQs, on the day that the mother of a murdered transgenger girl was in the gallery, he still felt able to make a petty and pathetic political point/joke about trans people.
He just doesn’t understand that these comments normalise discrimination against the trans community, or he does but doesn’t care.
No matter what happens at the election, it is my opinion that the best thing Sunak can do is go back to sitting in front of a computer screen, deal solely with spreadsheets and leave human contact to others.
