Jesmond Community Festival moves into week 2

Jesmond Community Festival is now into its second week and it is going very well, packed with fun and interesting events both outdoors and online. You may have missed the Tour de Jesmond yesterday but don’t worry as there is still a lot to do. Here is a selection of what you can still sign up to over the coming week.

Monday 10 May – Monday 31 May

Nature Trail

This is an outdoor event organised by Jesmond Community Orchard. You can do this in your own time in Jesmond Orchard and Cemetery, following the rhyming clues and learning about the plants and wildlife. As the festival website says:

“Hope you enjoy our Orchard Trail, try all the clues, or just a few; It’s really just about having fun and bringing the Orchard to you.”

This event is available during the normal cemetery opening times that you can find here.

Tuesday 11 May 10.30 – 11.30am

Cooking with Yasmin

In this online event Yasmin will show you how to tackle two of her favourite recipes – Musaka’a and Rice, and Tabbouleh Salad, and answer questions about Middle Eastern cookery. To join the meeting email events@jesmondlibrary.org

Thursday 13 May 6pm – 7pm

Virtual tour of the walls of Newcastle.

Sarah Mercer will provide a virtual tour of the mediaeval walls of Newcastle, showing where they remain and where they used to run. To receive a Zoom invitation email events@jesmondlibrary.org

Friday 14 May

Murder Mystery 6pm – 8pm

Join your fellow detectives for this online event and help us solve a chilling crime based on Ann Cleeves’ novel “The Darkest Evening” (without spoilers!). To receive a Zoom invitation email events@jesmondlibrary.org .

And looking ahead to week 3, you can listen to stories read by West Jesmond’s headteacher, Matthew Ward. This is on for 3 Saturdays of the festival. Find out more here.

You can read the full festival programme, including those events which are already booked up here.
