I wrote to you some time ago asking you to submit a letter of no confidence in your leader to the Chair of the 1922 Committee. You replied that you would wait for the Sue Gray report to come out. Now we find out that both the Prime Minister and the Chancellor have been fined for breaking Covid laws at parties in Downing Street. I was not surprised because it has been obvious for a long time that laws had been broken – despite the PM’s repeated statements to the contrary.
This evidence of breaking the law is clearly a stronger statement than the Sue Gray report. As your constituent, I ask you to immediately call for Parliament to be recalled and to support a vote of no confidence in this Prime Minister in the Commons. And of course, please also submit your letter of no confidence in your leader to the Chair of the 1922 Committee.
I followed the rules throughout the pandemic. You and I discussed that I was the sole visitor to my brother in a Merseyside nursing home, and for lengthy periods I did not visit due to Covid regulations. He has since died. And you shared your devastating story of being unable to visit your children in hospital, and they sadly died. It makes me so angry that Mr Johnson tells the country not to mix, to stay home, not to socialise while he enjoyed parties. We followed the rules, putting our lives on hold. All while those who made the laws broke them repeatedly.
Lawbreakers can’t be lawmakers. Johnson is the first sitting Prime Minister to have been found to have broken the law.
I urge you to consider my request, on behalf of all of us who followed the law and all those who lost their lives in the pandemic.
