Can you keep a secret? You might want to share it after discovering the new Secret Menu that McDonalds has launched as there is certainly plenty to shout about.
It always amazes me how the fast food can keep reinventing its menu whilst still keeping the basic ingredients at the heart of everything. The new Secret Menu is available for a limited time besides the new addition of the Big Arch burger which will now be on the menu permanently.
Big Arch burger
The Big Arch burger has been around before; I tried the delicacy in Spain a few years ago. The burger is basically a bigger version of a Big Mac – if you are old enough to remember the introduction of McDonalds into the UK over fifty years ago you would probably say that the Big Arch burger is the same size as a Big Mac used to be.
Chicken on the menu – and much more
The main ingredient of the new menu is chicken. Some items work better than others, in particular the Chicken Big Mac which substitutes Chicken for Beef – is such a good idea you wonder why they never thought of the idea before.
The Chicken Cheeseburger didn’t really work for me – somehow putting a chicken fillet inside a cheeseburger didn’t work well – cheese and chicken together didn’t tickle my tastebuds like beef and cheese do.
The Surf N Turf burger is a winning combination item featuring two beef patties and a crispy Pollock fish fillet, layered with cheese, onions, pickles, mustard, and ketchup in a bun. It’s a mashup of a cheeseburger and a Filet-O-Fish, known for its unique texture combination. This was a winning combination, though like Marmite, the burger is one you will either adore or loath.
The new Chilli Cheese Bites are served as a four piece selection – they seem to have got the right amount of chilli so as not to overpower the cheese – the rich tomato dip adds to the flavour too. Of all the new items the Cheese Bites are the ones that would sit easily alongside the traditional McDonalds menu.
If you fancy a sweet offering, the Apple Pie Mini McFlurry with a caramel coating is a good bet – this dirty little secret is basically the traditional fried Apple Pie served alongside a small McFlurry. A very sweet temptation that maybe worked the best of all within the new menu.
