The Brasserie, part of the Devonshire Arms Hotel just down the road from Bolton Abbey is a characterful spot just off the A59. With country views, a laid back vibe, and a charm all its own that offers indoor and outdoor dining, The Brasserie is a restaurant that should be on the radar of any discerning diner.

It helps when the sun is shining and you are rewarded with rolling countryside views of the Yorkshire dales, if the food is as good as the views then things get even better.

The menu

The menu offers something for everyone with some thoughtful touches such as Duck Leg Croquettes, Whipped Feta, Curried Mussels and Chicken Liver Parfait for starters.

Knowing that I was going to go for a dessert I went straight to the mains which includes temptations such as Butcher’s Steak, Char Siu Pork and Devonshire Beef Burger amongst others.

Always a good indication of the expertise of the chef is to choose a basic dish which led me to decide on the Fish and Chips. My battered haddock served with hand cut triple cooked chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce arrived very quickly.

The dessert menu offers many guilty pleasures in the shape of Amalfi Lemon Posset, Eton Mess and Dark Chocolate Mouse.

Cheeseboard

Being a lover of cheese, the cheeseboard was an easy choice for me. The selection, all thankfully served at room temperature varied in texture and taste; Fellstone cheddar – aged for three months by which time it had the fresh lemony-lactic flavours of a good Wensleydale, with a supple, firmer texture, a Leeds Blue which came with a rich, creamy and piquant taste with a real bite to boot and a good Tunworth – an English Camembert good enough to make a Frenchman weep: vegetal, porcini-flavoured and intense.

All three cheeses came from Courtyard Dairy at Auswick near Settle, the dairy is one of The Brasseries long standing suppliers.

Somewhere special

From the moment I stepped inside The Brasserie it was clear this was somewhere special. The atmosphere blended understated elegance with a relaxed charm, creating the perfect backdrop for an early evening meal. The surroundings were stylish yet inviting, while the team delivered warm, attentive service throughout, striking that rare balance of being ever-present when needed without feeling overbearing. Their genuine hospitality helped make my dining experience feel all the more memorable.

The Brasserie is current offering a 30% discount (food only) when ordering early lunch (12 noon til 12.30pm) or early dinner (5pm – 6pm)
