A £1.7M city programme of children’ summer activities will provide free healthy food and things to do during August. There are activities for children and young people from July 30 2021.
Best Summer Ever 2021
The government funded programme (Holiday Activity Fund) known as the Best Summer Ever 2021 is being spearheaded by Newcastle Council in partnership with StreetGames.
The following projects are happening across both Kenton and nearby Fawdon Ward:
- Inspire Youth – Kenton Park Sports Centre & St Mary’s Fawdon – six week programme
- Kenton Sports Centre – Monday-Friday offer – four week programme
- Hattrick in Kenton Park, four-week programme
- NUFC – four days football camp Kenton School
- Mountfield Primary School working with NE Wilderness on outdoor away day forestry provision
Holiday activities and food
Councillor Paula Holland, Newcastle City Council cabinet member for Education and Skills, said:
“Since 2019, we have been working with StreetGames and partners in the city to provide holiday activities and food for children across Newcastle. This programme has reached thousands of children, helping to keep them engaged, energised and fed throughout the school holidays.”
Lots to do for 6 – 16 year olds
Councillor Stephen Lambert, Chair of the Kenton committee welcomes the summer programme, saying:
“Kenton Park Sports Centre, Kenton and Mountfield schools alongside voluntary bodies will play a key role the implementation of this Best Summer Ever programme with a package of varied activities for 6 to 16-year olds living in the North West of the city.”
“The Best Summer Ever event is open to all children and young people under 16 living in the city,” he added.
The programme will suit everyone’s tastes and is fully inclusive.
All those taking part will receive a nutritional lunch.
