Campaigners from National Rejoin March will be in Westminster this Wednesday to say that the UK should rejoin the European Union. This is to coincide with ‘Brexit Day’, the anniversary of when the UK formally left the EU.
The group will join with members of SODEM, Grassroots for Europe, London 4 Europe, and more for a day of action and fun on the anniversary of the day when the UK began economic sanctions on itself.
Events on the day
It promises to be an action-packed day, which will include a European vigil, a ‘Death by Brexit’ demonstration, leafleting and pro-EU light installations and singing as it gets dark.
Organiser George Kilaiditis said:
“From time to time, we all seem to behave as if we believe that the arc of history bends towards rejoin, but there is no reason this will ever happen unless we make it happen. May you feel the hand of history on your shoulder and may it lead you to Parliament Square on 31 January.”
Activist, Louise Brown, from Sunderland, one of the founders of North East for Europe, and member of SODEM said:
“As a regular member of SODEM, I’m looking forward to working with NRM, Grassroots, and London 4 Europe on Wednesday 31 January to mark the sad fourth anniversary of leaving the EU. It’s also the day Brexit Border checks come into force after being pushed back several times and I will be there to highlight the chaos it is said to bring.”
National Rejoin March
National Rejoin March is a grassroots organisation with the slogan “Join us on the road to rejoin”, and the aim of working towards the UK rejoining the EU. The group has already organised two big and successful marches in London and has a Day for Rejoin coming up later in March. Co-founder, Peter Corr, said:
“In this election year, it’s more important than ever to get the rejoin message in front of politicians and the media – so that’s what we’ll be doing, starting on 31 January. We want rejoin on the agenda and then to keep it there until we’re back where we belong.”
