Two of Britain’s leading pro-European institutions have joined forces to bolster support for the battle to reverse the “calamity of Brexit.”

The new alliance has been announced between the European Movement UK (EMUK), which claims to be the nation’s largest pro-European organisation, and the weekly news magazine The New European.

European Movement UK

EMUK describes itself as “grassroots, cross-party and people-powered.”

It claims 16,500 members, over 200,000 campaign supporters, 137 local groups and strong networks in Westminster and the European Union.

It says: “Our goal is to reverse the calamity of Brexit and restore relations with our European neighbours.”

EMUK says:

“The polls are shifting, and it is becoming clearer that Brexit isn’t working. Somehow, what was once a policy of UKIP has become the UK’s future. This is unacceptable and we have had enough.

“EMUK UK is leading the battle for the soul of our country, to expose the disastrous impact of Brexit on our economy, our freedom and our values…

“[We] share the values of The New European. We believe that Brexit was a historic, national mistake. We believe that the UK’s economic and political interests, and the global pursuit of our shared values – of peace, freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law – are best achieved through the UK playing our full part as a member of the European Union.

“We can’t sit back and wait for politicians to lead the way back to Europe – it’s up to our people-powered movement to create the pressure that will make it happen. If you believe in this, if you want to prevent further harm from Brexit, and if you want to reverse this calamity, join us at EMUK.”

The New European

The New European told its readers:

“We are happy to announce the start of a new partnership with EMUK; they are at the heart of the pro-European ecosystem, sharing the same values as we do. Their grassroots, cross-party and people-powered movement contributes positively to our national discourse, and we believe they are worthy of your support.”

North East for Europe

European Movement has local groups all over the UK. Yvonne Wancke, chair of North East for Europe, said:

“We are delighted with the new partnership between EMUK and The New European. North East for Europe continues to campaign for a closer relationship with Europe, leading to rejoining the EU. The two organisations working more closely together is a great way to show the spirit of cooperation and unity, as shown by the European Union.”
