Anti-social behaviour (ASB) by adults in Gateshead has seen a near 20% decline last year, according to official crime statistics.
Crime figures from Northumbria Police between April and December 2025 have recorded hundreds fewer cases of anti-social behaviour in the Gateshead area. In the nine month period there was a decline in offences from the same period last year from 2,843 to 2,294, equating to a 19% drop.
Youth ASB has also seen a 17% decrease from 671 to 609, however the statistics do state that 8 out of 10 cases of ASB are committed by adults.
Gateshead Council’s housing, environment, and healthy communities overview and scrutiny committee report states: “Motorcycle anti-social behaviour continues to be a concern for our residents in Gateshead. This is part of a national trend, where the use of electric motorcycles on roads, paths and public spaces causes nuisance.
“Methods including the use of drone technology are constantly evolving to help combat this type of nuisance when it occurs.”
It continues: “We strongly encourage residents to assist Northumbria Police by reporting any information they become aware of relating to bike storage locations or details of those responsible for causing nuisance.”
Between April and December 2025, there was also a decline in the percentage of residents who feel their neighbourhood has got worse in the last 12 months from 37% to 34%. The statistics are in conjunction with a 1% dip in crime overall in Gateshead between April and December 2024/25. Total recorded incidents fell from 14,151 to 13,971.
Gateshead Council’s housing, environment, and healthy communities overview and scrutiny committee will meet on March 23 to discuss the report.
