Driving in style with my Renault Twizy

I have never before had a car where people stop and look. I do now - my Renault Twizy.

It all started with an article over new year asking what three things will people do in 2022 to help alleviate the impact of the climate crisis. One person replied that they had reserved a quadricycle, the fully electric Ami 2. I checked it out.  With a range of 43 miles and a top speed of 28mph what more could I want?

I live a hilly 3.5 miles from Allendale. I walk the 3.5 miles to the shops/café in about one hour to one hour fifteen minutes depending on whether I’m rushing for the bus or not. Or I would cycle; 20 minutes downhill into Allendale and I won’t say how long to get back. An hour rest followed. I then moved to an electric bike. This is it, I thought. Twenty minutes either way to Allendale or 40 minutes each way to Haltwhistle. I love the bike, have cycled to Allenheads, to the chimney stacks above Allendale via Ninebanks. Just fabulous. But, it can be very windy (frequent) with rain, sleet, snow or just dark, very dark.

I checked out the Citroen Ami. It would take time. The car had to be reserved with an unclear delivery time. Also the car was left hand drive. I found details of the Renault Twizy. Similar to the Ami it is a quadricycle; although it has two seats one is behind the other, it can go 45 mph, and travel 30 miles before charging. For charging a standard household electric socket is used. I found a 2013, Twizy, for sale in Newcastle.

Plenty of room for one passenger

I have never before had a car where people stop and look. I do now. I drive to Allendale, Hexham and Halwhistle.
