If you have seen any of the climate change documentaries on Netflix you can understand how the Trump Administration is ignoring the red flags. Over and over throughout the years we have seen how dangerous it is to ignore the clear signs Mother Nature is signalling. I live in Maine and the winters are nowhere near as cold and snowy as they once were in the 1980s and 1990s.
My profession
I am a horticulturalist. I went to college for three years to study Environmental and Geology. I didn’t finish as I was getting married to start a family with my (now) ex-husband. Naturally I continued to study and analyse the weather around me as time went on. As my children grew and matured I needed to begin earning an income to support myself and provide for my children. My husband and I went through a divorce, and I decided to continue my journey with nature. I’m an artist at heart so I combined my love of science and beauty into one to earn a living.
A ’one businesswoman show’
Over the last 14 years I have worked for small and large landscape companies to learn everything I possibly could to step out on my own and make a difference. I did just that in June 2024. Little did I know Trump would step into office once again. I thought it would be impossible for him to be elected a second time because of our supposed laws. I guess here in the states the reality is anything is possible. So, I resist as fiercely as I can with integrity. I’m a one businesswoman show. I’m committed to collaborating with other companies working together with our own expertise. However, the threat of Trump crushing our ‘American Culture’ of small businesses is making life incredibly difficult to create job opportunities for myself and others.
These recent actions towards small businesses and particularly small landscaping companies will not recover easily or it will take decades to rebuild in a new way. The industry is even being affected by the Trump administration’s policy on deporting legal and vetted immigrants. He is also preventing legal agreements to house workers from other countries to help the Green Industry in America thrive.
People by nature are creative even if you say you aren’t. It’s genuinely false as the root of the problem Is financial back up to create these new and innovative processes to how we exist in our country and beyond. No one wants to put the time or spiritual effort. It’s dog eat dog and change feels farther and farther away.
Not against corporate culture
I was born in New York and raised by New Yorkers in Boston and I have some understanding of how big business works. I’m not necessarily against corporate America I’m against how much intelligence exists here and it’s not being utilized. We’re told we are sick, delusional, weak, under achievers, and just plain old lazy. Which is largely untrue. It’s the pressure cooker of the bottom line only that creates division, anger, chronic pain and hopelessness. I don’t know everything but what I’m confident about is anyone who has given their heart and soul to grab an opportunity to thrive with what they have is crushed. It didn’t just start with Covid. With Trump in charge decline escalated within a minute and five years later our American Culture is disappearing more rapidly every day.
What I mean by American Culture is immigrants from the past who brought their culture of taste, beauty, wellness, and spirit to America to share and experience with others what it’s like in places other than where Americans live or where you were from.
Final thoughts
I’m going to circle back around to my original thoughts about climate change and business. In my experience, it seems that Trump and his administration are not paying attention to the fact that small businesses and sustainability of big corporations of any kind is the crux of our society. They are about more, more, more and more damage to everyone’s life.
Trump’s approach is not ethical or in line with our constitution and Lady Liberty herself. It just isn’t. Trump is not going to save the world as he isn’t god. He is not having people do the research to make sure that criminals and only criminals are getting deported. He says that climate change isn’t real and that we’ll be fine even despite all the signs around the globe.
People have become numbers on paper and I don’t mean the Social Security numbers. All it is around here is noise, talk and lies. There aren’t any real plans for change and everywhere we go there are empty abandoned mall strips, and homeless camps. People are staying inside more and more out of fear. I don’t understand why this is so difficult to understand.
I have a theory that it’s about anger and war. I know I’m rejecting toxic anger and behaviour in my personal world. That is how I’m resisting.
I think the real challenge and calling we are having as a collective in America is to really begin to be in touch with our higher power. With our morals. No matter what religion you practice or country you live in it’s about allowing humans to survive without radical
Violence. America, a first world country, should be leading for all cultures and seeking how to achieve excellence through encouragement. Not destruction because Mother Nature already knows how do so without us interfering at all.
