Kenton councillors are taking a stand against litter, rubbish, and fly-tipping.

They are taking a stand by taking part in Keep Britain Tidy’s environmental campaign – the Great British Clean 2023.

The Great British Clean takes place from March 17 to April 2.

Councillors have also joined up with the charity CleanUK who are loaning out litter picker equipment.

Litter pick success

Kenton’s litter picks are often successful.

Previously, litter picks have filled over 25 bags of waste.

Bags are often filled with rubbish, discarded nappies, wood and rotting food.

Kenton’s most recent litter pick took place on Kenton Dene, Montagu Estate with Local volunteers, the Church of Ascension, and elected members from both Kenton and nearby Blakelaw.

Local councillors and residents have planned more community litter picks as part of their Keep Kenton Tidy initiative.

 Local Councillors

Kenton councillors and community members have declared war on rubbish.

Councillor Stephen Lambert, Chair of the Kenton Committee, said: ”Our team have declared war on grime, litter, rubbish, dog mess and fly-tipping and we thank local residents for joining in our community-led litter picks.”

The councillors believe it’s important to work with the community to help tackle the litter problem.

They believe litter in the area won’t disappear overnight, but litter picking will help keep the area clean and tidy.

Ged Bell, Vice -Chair of the Committee, said: ”Ourselves and the Council recognise that stopping people dropping litter and leaving refuse bags full of rubbish on green spaces like Kenton Dene and Kenton Park won’t happen overnight. But by working together as a community, we can take on the litter bugs, to keep Kenton and Montagu clean and tidy.”
