The Great British Spring Clean got underway last weekend on Kenton Dene providing ”a great opportunity for residents to do their bit to help tackle litter and rubbish.”
Clean Up UK and Newcastle Council loaned out litter pickers, bibs, bags and other equipment to local volunteers and residents who joined the community litter pick.
Twenty residents were joined by Father Malcolm Hall, Andy Turnbull, Kenton’s Neighbourhood Warden and councillors Ged Bell and Stephen Lambert with refreshments provided by the nearby Church of Ascension, Creighton Ave, Montagu.
Cllr Stephen Lambert, Chair of the Kenton Ward Committee, said:
”We really appreciate the support local volunteers and residents gave to hard working council staff to help keep our green spaces like Kenton Dene looking their best. Improving the local environment is a key priority for Montagu and Kenton Ward residents.”
Community-led litter picks have taken place across the ward including North Kenton Park, Kenton Lane, Kenton Bar and Hazeldene Estate with more to come in Spring/Summer 2024 with planters restored on Creighton Ave, Kenton Lane, and North Kenton shops.
A Friends of Kenton Dene group has been re-launched which will work alongside the council to make further improvements to the Dene.
