Been watching on as sad events unfurled?
So now you want to save the world!
The young are busy locked in school
The wage slaves bow to those who rule
The old are tired but know what's what
Enjoying the little time they've got
And nature smiles but does not flinch
She won't give human kind an inch
Perhaps it's not for us to reason why
the force of evolution makes things die
Of course we're smart and clever too Mining stored sunlight for almost all we do We mostly rush about exploiting life With occasion wars and too much strife We're proud most humans have their votes While banks make magical piles of notes Our politicians strut and promise more Protecting businesses by making law Their money makes the world go round But there's not much wisdom to be found
This crazy game is powered by greed Grabbing what we want not what we need Slick adverts costing many hundred billions Inflame the base desires of many millions This keeps the wheels of commerce turning Quarrying for minerals and forest burning Raping the seas and exploiting our soils Whilst the merchants of greed enjoy their spoils You can cry out “stop” and block the street But the machine runs on, it won't retreat
So how do we break this circle of power? Escape the greed that kills us hour by hour How do we change our lust for “stuff” And finally realise we have enough! It's not OK to drive big cars It's not OK to fly to Mars Stop flushing waste into lakes and seas Stop poisoning the land, our air and bees Stop selling weapons that maim and kill Stop dumping food waste in hopeless landfill
The corporate world won't go without a fight Don't trust the banks to do what's right We have to help each other change To live well with less is not so strange Withdraw your labour, spend less cash Persuade your neighbours to produce less trash The best things in life cannot be bought Ignore those adverts, don't get caught Wear a smile while you have all you need Become a winner in the war on greed
