US President Donald Trump has called for a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. President Zelenskyy has pushed back against proposals sidelining Europe from upcoming US-brokered discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, underscoring that “the war is happening in Europe, and Ukraine is an integral part of Europe”.
European Movement echoes President Zelenskyy’s call for European leadership at the negotiating table for these potentially vital talks. Attempts to bypass European voices in shaping a peace settlement risk undermining the continent’s security and the values for which we stand.
European Movement says that Europe is not a bystander, but that Europe’s security, democratic values, and the right of nations to self-determination are all at stake in these negotiations.
