Keir Starmer said “We will put Britain at the heart of Europe”. While the PM’s pro-European rhetoric is welcome, he can’t achieve his policy aims within his own red lines. You can’t be at the heart of Europe, and you can’t restore hope for future generations, without being in the EU, at the heart of its single market and at the table when the big calls are made.

“The Prime Minister championed restoring the UK back to the ‘heart’ of Europe. While that is the right sentiment that resonates with the majority of the country, where is the path that drives over his red lines to get us there? The ‘heart of Europe’ is a real place, structurally and politically, not just a line of rhetoric. It’s full EU membership. If he’s serious about it, then it needs a roadmap right now to prove it.
“The UK needs change, not the same old promise of change. We need to drop the red lines on Europe. Join the single market, create jobs and improve trade with Europe. Then we need to start negotiating a path to joining the European Union. That is change.”
