The coffin lid is closed, just a few more nails to be hammered in. The Labour Party and Starmer in particular are, let’s be charitable, unpopular. Incompetence, bad decisions, and U – turns are all adding to the feeling that the Labour Party under Starmer is sinking.
The election is a few years away, so things can change, however, the most recent poll suggests that the Labour Party will lose over 300 seats at the next election.
I fear the situation is irredeemable whilst Starmer is in charge.
He puts forward policies that are so far away from a Labour Party perspective they could well have been proposed by Margaret Thatcher. Winter fuel payments were removed, and there were welfare reforms that attacked the most vulnerable. He had to reverse these decisions, but the damage was done. The removal of the whip for voting against welfare cuts was disgraceful. MPs wanted to look after their constituents? No, we can’t be having that.
We are now seeing pensioners, vicars and others being arrested for sitting silently and holding a placard. And more restrictions on free speech are on the way.
Persistent protesters are to be monitored and potentially prevented from attending protests, peaceful or not.
It is quite striking that this has come out of ‘free Palestine’ protests and not ones organised by Britain First or similar.
Has Starmer not learned anything from the demise of the Conservative Party?
He is doing a very good impression of Boris Johnson at the moment… making his party in his likeness. It seems short-sighted, stupid, and reckless, and shows that he is weak and can’t stand to be challenged.
Whilst in opposition he regularly stated he would govern “for the country, not party”
It appears he is governing for self, not party.
At every turn he seems to be sidelining anyone with a different view. Every reshuffle pushes out anyone with a political stance to the left of David Cameron.
Assuming the polls are correct, and I despair if they are, then Farage and his racist, bigoted and hate filled politics will divide our nation even more than currently on show.
There will be plenty of blame to go round if this happens…the Daily Mail and its ilk, Boris Johnson, David Cameron and, yes, Keir Starmer.
Starmer needs to go and we need the Labour Party to find its soul again.
