After a few days of controversy, Angela Rayner resigned, having been found to have broken the ministerial code. Almost immediately Matt Vickers MP and Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party was gloating on X that she had gone. Kemi Badenoch took a little more time before emerging to condemn the Prime Minister for waiting for the ethics report before taking action, rather than sack her immediately.
I was under the impression that the correct procedure was followed.
Hypocrisy
The stench of hypocrisy is all over Vickers and Badenoch.
Matt Vickers was one of Boris Johnson’s biggest cheerleaders and was loyal to the bitter end when he was forced to resign from parliament.
He also voted to ignore the Standards Committees recommendation regarding Owen Paterson.
Whilst Vickers has been in parliament, there have been numerous instances of Conservative Ministers and MPs breaking rules and sometimes being ruled unlawful. However, I cannot recall him ever having been concerned about them.
Some of these instances include Priti Patel, Michael Gove, Robert Jenrick and Gavin Williamson.
Kemi Badenoch even said:
“One rule for them, another for everyone else. The country deserves better, only the Conservatives under my leadership will deliver that.”
Wow! Badenoch deserves a ‘doctorate’ for being able to compartmentalise, then forget/ignore years of Conservative scandals and still say that.
Where do these politicians get their ethics and morals from?
An ordinary, decent person would surely have at least a tiny amount of self-awareness and keep their mouths shut…but not these, in my opinion, shallow and pathetic individuals.
What has the greater British public done to deserve politicians like these?
There they are, walking around with ‘holier than thou’ attitudes, dashing to studios to get their faces seen on TV or voices heard on radio.
It seems they aren’t in it for their constituents, it’s all about them, their egos, careers and bank balances.
We need better.
