Why is Nigel Farage being taken seriously?

Other than a milkshake, why is Nigel Farage getting anything for free?

Nigel Farage emerged from a Wetherspoons and got a facial in the form of a milkshake from an angry OnlyFans influencer, who thinks he’s an ‘arse’. This was not as some speculated a stunt by Farage’s own team to earn pity points and confirm his persecution complex, but he got a lot of free attention nonetheless. Why? Why is he even being given the time of day? Would you trust him if he told you it?

Only in February he told the British press, “Do I want to spend every Friday for the next five years in Clacton”, the rhetorical subtext clear – what would someone as important as me be doing in a dump like that? Only to announce last week he’s standing, in Clacton.

Clacton, where UKIP won its only MP, per Farage’s only ‘victory’ being Brexit in 2016, and we know how that turned out. When the News Agents’ Emily Maitlis pointed out the economic hit to the residents of already impoverished Clacton, Coutts Bank’s most infamous client had this to say.

The Reform Party and Trump

He’s standing for the Reform Party, formerly known as the Brexit Party, formerly known as UKIP, and the party he owns and has just taken back control of from Richard Tice, and which is a private business. Of the Brexit Party in 2019 he stood down half its candidates, some who’d paid a lot of their own money for their campaigning, in a deal with Boris Johnson. There are depths to what this guy does with people.

He said he was going to help get his mate Trump re-elected – but lost interest when Trump’s priority became more about being sprung from prison. I’m sure Trump appreciates such fair-weather friends as much as the Brits appreciate the prospect of being abandoned, though I guess ‘Posh’ George Cottrel of Farage’s own entourage would be unwilling to go stateside again, either.

All pretty awful. Consistently awful though, I suppose there’s a positive.

We wondered what he wanted when, following a stint on the personality rehab show, I’m a Celebrity Get Me out of Here, he was recently wheeled out for the 37th time on Question Time.

Immigration

Then a few days ago the BBC said that Farage would make an announcement later in the day. Then his views on immigration became the headline, as if we don’t know what they are, then James Cleverly tried to trump it saying the Tories would stop immigration, then immigration loomed in the Starmer-Sunak debate.

Like there’s nothing else to talk about. We know he’s a rich and absolutely not for the working classes he purports to support, we know he’s more Establishment than most in the Establishment, we know he’s full of it, can’t be trusted, has nothing to offer but failure and division. Other than a milkshake, why is he getting anything for free?
