If the most recent polling is anywhere near accurate, Labour and Conservative Parties will suffer crushing losses in May elections. Reform UK is predicted to make ‘seismic’ gains, whilst the Green Party are expected to increase their number of seats significantly. And the two main parties will have no one to blame but themselves.
Conservatives, now in opposition, have taken the ridiculous stance that whatever is wrong with NHS, economy, Defence, Justice etc has nothing to do with their fourteen years in power. A collective amnesia or re-writing of history no less.
As for the Labour Party, you cannot U Turn so often, in such a short period of time if you are actually thinking about your policies.
This means that Labour have basically ‘incompetenced’ (I know it’s not a verb, but it should be), themselves into the position they are in.
Reform will probably take over the governance of more councils and we will see whether they improve them or not.
Hopefully for residents, Reform’s vetting procedures have been more thorough than of late and have learned from some of the turmoil they have caused in Kent etc.
Local councillors are incredibly important, as they influence our day to day lives more than an MP, so I desperately hope that people actually think about the person they are voting for, rather than the colour of the rosette or who the leader of the party is.
Can Starmer survive an election bloodbath, or will he be sending out an SOS or perhaps a MAYDAY?
