The Conservatives have held on to their Stockton council seat at the by-election in Eaglescliffe West ward held yesterday, Thursday 11 December.

Tory Stephen Dodds was returned with 1,194 votes. Bucking the trend of his party’s by-election wins, Reform’s Rick MacDonald gained 470 votes in what was always going to be a two-horse race.

The Greens’ Danny Reed  made an appearance with 150 votes, and last was Labour’s Frank Saul with147 votes.

As expected in any council  by-election, the turn-out was dire – at 35.86%. The electorate consisted of 5472 people.
