Reform UK seems to attract some very nasty, bigoted, racist, and Islamophobic people. It certainly feels that as every day dawns, a Reform UK candidate is shown to have a hate filled back story.
Nigel Farage
Over the whole, period in which Nigel Farage has been leading political parties (UKIP, Brexit Party and now Reform), there have been a large number of scandals involving members’ back catalogue of bigotry.
With this horrible history of ‘bad apples’ that Farage talks about every time an interviewer mentions it, surely he would ensure that Reform’s vetting procedures are stringent.
Farage says that the vetting is common sense and a brutal, intrusive look into social media.
Reform’s vetting
Earlier this year a Reform councillor was interviewed on BBC Wales regarding the vetting process and how intrusive it was. Reform UK’s Jason O’Connell said:
“We’ve turned down some genuinely good people just on the off chance that they might have said something slightly off the wall 10-20 years ago.”
Unfortunately for Reform, the evidence doesn’t fit with his description.
If Reform actually do the vetting they claim at all, then it may be advisable to take note of the findings.
Incompetence or deliberate?
Of course, the answer could be relatively simple…incompetence.
Or, if one were incredibly cynical, you may believe that, these bigoted people are exactly the type of councillors and MPs that Reform actually wants, and therefore the vetting procedure is working perfectly.
