Well, it’s happened. It’s finally happened. Reform UK is polling equally to Labour in the opinion polls, tied in first place. I saw this coming the moment their popularity began to grow after the election and Keir Starmer’s began to fall. In time, I predict them to take the lead in at least a few opinion polls if not more.

As a fellow political activist put it, we are facing “the unknown threat of Reform”. Their words are appropriate and highlight the problem we face. The danger of Farage’s party is there for the world to see, yet the mainstream political establishment and wider public seem to be blind to it.

Ever-rising Reform

Ever since Nigel Farage returned to front line politics, Reform UK has been constantly on the up. From achieving 14.3% and winning five MPs in the last general election, the party has overtaken the Conservative Party in terms of members, come second in two opinion polls and now tied with Labour in first place. With Labour maintaining a single-digit lead in the polls at the best of times and not having risen above 30% since October, there is every chance that Reform UK could take the lead.

The real problem, however, is that no one is taking the threat seriously. Not to my eye at least. All the leader of the opposition can say is that Nigel Farage is lying when he says that Reform UK now have more members than her Conservative Party and while the Prime Minister has been calling him out, a lot more is required. The less Farage and his party are held to account and the more coverage they get in the mainstream media, the less the public will know about the gravity of the threat they pose. If that is allowed to continue, we could be sleepwalked into a Reform UK government before we can even realise what is going on.

Act now

Reform UK does not stand for British interests. They are a limited company, owned by Nigel Farage who cosy up to extreme politicians and billionaires in America who threaten Britain on a regular basis.

Some of us know this already but many people don’t. That’s the problem. They’re being lured into the belief that Reform UK is made up of some big, anti-establishment saviours who will protect ordinary people from corrupt politicians. But the opposite is true; corruption is rife in their ranks and, as demonstrated many times before and especially with Nigel Farage’s record as a constituency MP, they don’t care one bit about our nation’s communities. But people are not aware of this, and that is where things get tricky.

The truth about Reform needs to be highlighted and publicised far more than it is now. We need to make this unknown threat known to the public. People need to see the true face of Reform and for that to happen, we need to show them. All parties, politicians and activists across the nation need to tear Nigel’s mask of charisma from his face and expose him and his party’s far-right policies for what they truly are. Reform’s output needs to be heavily scrutinised and this scrutiny needs to be highlighted in the press and hammered home by campaigners on doorsteps.

Whatever colour rosette you wear, it is no longer just about what your party is offering, but also about what dangerous alternative awaits if Farage is allowed to sneak into Downing Street. Don’t dismiss the threat of Reform UK and let it go unknown to the wider public. People need to know what they’re up against and it is up to all of us to show them.
