North East Bylines has been in touch with Waseem, from Gaza, for the last few weeks. Waseem is a husband, and father of three children, who was forced from his home in northern Gaza earlier in the conflict. His home and place of work no longer exist because of the bombing. Here are some of his messages.
“Hi, I’m Waseem, a father of three from Gaza. Our house was destroyed, and we now live in a tent with no food, no medicine, and no warmth. Every day we struggle to survive 😥. The cold and hunger are relentless. If you can donate anything, you will help us survive.”

“They destroyed our lives, our children are dying of fear”
“Every 7 days [the crowdfunder][s] send me donations, but for the past two weeks there have been few sales, and that is not enough to provide food for my children here in Gaza, where prices are very high because of the war and its interruption.”

“I hope we can collect a little so I can buy some flour for my children. They haven’t eaten anything since yesterday.”
“Here in Gaza, they are all in the same situation. No one intercedes for anyone, and they do not look after any of the children who are hungry and want to eat. They do not understand that there is nothing or that it is expensive.”
“We have become like beggars to eat, I am sorry”
23 June
“Thank you, I am fine. I hope you have a nice day, my friend. Today I have not been able to find food from the charity for my children since yesterday. We need food. I do not have money or donations to be able to provide them with food. What should we do to spread the story and bring in even a little money? I am in dire need of them now.”
“A simple request 😔 Don’t leave us in these difficult times. We need your support to provide food. Hunger is painful, and the hardest thing is seeing your children die of hunger. If you feel with us, donate so I can provide food.”

“I am sick because of low blood sugar. My face looks yellow.”
“The price of sugar is $50 per kilo. They are evil. I haven’t had anything with sugar in it for 30 days.”
“A few moments ago, gunboats, helicopters and artillery were shooting near me, so I cannot go outside the tent. It is very dark here, there is no light or electricity.”
29 June
“The army responded by sending out an evacuation map for the place where I live and wants us to head south. Where should we go? We are tired.😭😭”
“He will bomb the place. I won’t leave this place. He wants to kill me. Let him do it. I’m tired of moving around.”
“They threw evacuation leaflets at us. I can’t move anywhere because I don’t have money for that.”
