Trump is intent on making the White House his permanent residence. He has made it quite clear he is desperate to cling to power and will go to any lengths to do so.
First attempt ended in failure
The storming of the Capitol on 6 January 2021, failed to overturn a free and fair election, so Trump was unable to stay in power and had to sneak out the back door so no one could witness his eviction.
If at first you don’t succeed
His plan this time revolves around the midterm elections…ideally cancel them or try to rig them.
Trump needs to succeed this time because if the Democrats regain the House, Senate or both, he is very likely to be impeached for the third time.
At the very least, he will lose a significant portion of his power. Power gifted to him by a spineless and sycophantic Republican Party, a party who have abdicated and moral or ethical compass they had.
How he could cancel and/or rig the midterm elections
Invoke the Insurrection Act, get troops on the street and have martial law.
This way he can say it’s too dangerous to hold elections,
If he fails to get them cancelled, then maybe he has a backup plan… Encouraging Republicans to ‘gerrymander’ states voting districts should give him a number of extra seats in the House of Representatives, thus consolidating his position as President.
To invoke the Insurrection Act Trump needs violence and lawlessness (whether real or imagined).
To this end Trump has sent his masked henchmen/women cities around the country, dragging anyone and anybody out of cars, workplaces, restaurants etc all without warrants or even evidence apart from skin colour or accent.
This has been enough to get Americans protesting.
Dare to object or come to the assistance of an ICE target and you are quite likely to get tased, gassed or suffer physical harm.
Two US citizens have already died at the hands of these masked ICE agents, both of whom appear, according to video evidence, not to pose a risk to the life of any of these agents.
The government then turns up the outrage by immediately describing victims as ‘domestic terrorists’, or accusing them of criminal activity. This is before any investigation has happened.
Trump needs the protests to turn into something more serious so that he can claim justification to invoke the Insurrection Act, which he has talked about numerous times, so make no mistake he will invoke it at the earliest opportunity.
Will it work?
It is very possible, if previous events are any judge, for protests to turn into violence, into riots and looting.
Look to what happened after the deaths of Rodney King and George Floyd.
Donald Trump is almost certainly suffering from cognitive impairment, if his rambling, word salad speeches and forgetting names and places etc are anything to go by.
Add to this a narcissism that knows no bounds, a lack of intelligence and zero moral compass and you have the most dangerous person in the world.
Look out world, he is on the cusp of being what he most admires… a dictator in the style of Putin, Kim Jong Un and Chairman Xi.
