Peter Gibson, Conservative MP for Darlington, one of the North East Red Wall seats has resigned from his position as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Department of International Trade. He believes that Boris Johnson is no longer the best person for the Tory Party, the country and Darlington.
Peter Gibson’s letter of resignation, shared on twitter says:
“On Saturday last week I marched with LGBT+ Conservatives at London Pride. As a gay MP that should have been a liberating, enjoyable experience, instead due to the damage our party has inflicted on itself over the failure to include trans people in the ban on conversion therapy, it was a humiliating experience, and signalled to me the immense damage that has been so needlessly inflicted after years of hard work by many to rebuild the damage of Section 28.”
Peter Gibson was elected as MP for Darlington in 2019.
Peter Gibson, Jacob Young and Dehenna Davison have all indicated their withdrawal of support for the Prime Minister.
I wonder who is next in the North East.
