Winter’s soft persistent sunlight
Gently met my tired eyes
Slowly the clouds in the west
smothered the soft sunlight
The weak winter sun made it
through the clouds again,
the light contrasting with
the dark stepped, wild Wannies
as the weary sun lay low in the sky.
Ahead of me in the wide green valley
Across the quietly flowing river
was another community embracing precious life itself
All busy with the sacred
duties that life permits.
And as the soft darkness descended
I could feel that community enfolding me
As if a loving mother was warmly holding
her lost and lonely child.
