The owners of a property in Lenin Terrace, Chopwell plan to build a 20ftx8ft steel container for the business to operate out of up to seven days a week.

The clinic would offer hair and tattoo removals and be home to one laser technician with maximum opening hours of 9am to 8pm.

The application states: “Due to the appointment-only nature of the business, It will not open up the space for the general public, therefore reducing foot traffic to a minimum. There is ample off-street parking in the immediate area within 10m of the property, as well as roadside parking. Additionally, there is a public car park under 200m away. It will also not require any deliveries to the site.”

If approved the business would only see one customer at a time and a 10-15 minute window between appointments would be enforced. A daily maximum of customers entering the potential site has been estimated as 13, but dubbed “unlikely”, due to the “flexible and varying nature of appointments”.

Documents submitted to Gateshead Council’s planning department reassured officers there would be “no odour issues” or sound pollution in relation to the business. The application also claims no excessive music will be heard from the container either.

At the time of publication, a decision has not been made on the proposals. The application was received on May 26 and validated on June 27.
