A special seasonal visitor will be calling in to Hemlington this Saturday (December 7) – and everyone is invited. Santa will be parking his sleigh at the Viewley Hill Shopping Centre and will greet local children in his Grotto at Hemlington Library Hub.

All are welcome to enjoy a variety of festive activities between 10am and 2pm, with Santa’s Grotto open until 1.30pm. Admission to the event and all entertainment and activities are free, although there will be a token charge of £1 for the Grotto which will include a gift from Santa.

Those attending will have the opportunity to join in with and be entertained by the Circus Skills Workshops taking place in the library throughout the morning.  There will also be a face painter and a variety of stalls on offer, enabling people to pick up special cards or Christmas gifts.

Refreshments will be available in the nearby shops and café.

This year the event is being held in memory of Councillor Jeanette Walker, and is organised by and funded by the volunteers of Hemlington Community Council.

Community Council Chair Michael Heslehurst said “At what can be an expensive time of the year, Hemlington Community Council aims to deliver an affordable community event for local families and we hope people will come along, contribute to the festive spirit and help make it a success.

“We will also be remembering Jeanette Walker who helped organise so many of these events in Hemlington and could always be seen helping out as an elf at Christmas.”
