That’s the question I’m asking my constituents in Middlesbrough & Thornaby East courtesy of the Labour government’s Pride in Place programme.
The areas of Thorntree and Park End in the east of Middlesbrough are the areas in receipt of this long-term funding which will be invested over a period of ten years.
What makes this project even more exciting is that it will be down to people living and working in these areas to decide how to spend this funding.
That’s why this week I am writing to all of my constituents in these two areas to ask them that very question – what would you improve in your community if you had £40mn?
I have spoken in Parliament on this issue, expressing my view that this major investment in our local community will change lives for the better, and I’m proud to deliver it for our area. But this is just the beginning.
What a fantastic opportunity we have to make really positive changes in the lives of so many people, and of course these investments will have a further knock-on effect across east Middlesbrough and the whole area.
I’m really excited to hear the ideas that come back from our TS3 postcode and have launched a survey on my website to gather residents’ thoughts.
The aim of the money
To get the thoughts flowing the aim of the money is to:
- Support projects that create jobs and opportunities locally.
- Improve community facilities, youth services and green spaces.
- Help make our streets safer, cleaner, and more welcoming.
- Strengthen the organisations and groups that bring our community together.
I look forward to sharing more on Pride in Place as we progress throughout 2026 and beyond, but for now let’s get sharing ideas on how £40mn would be best spent in Thorntree and Park End.
