Newcastle City Council’s Empowering People in Community (EPiC) team is staging a Crime Prevention Partnership event in Montagu Estate , Kenton. The event to take place at MERA Hall, Wyndley Place on 31 January aims to bring residents together to help build community spirit and shape action plans to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour related issues.
The Montagu estate neighbourhood, home to over 2,000 residents, has experienced problems in the last year with motorbike disorder, litter, fly-tipping, waste, aggressive cold calling and crimes such as theft of valuables from parked cars. A range of partner organisations are due to attend the EPiC event, including Northumbria Police, Tyne and Wear Fire Service, Safe Newcastle, the EPic Team, Trading Standards, YHN and local councillors Stephen Lambert, Ged Bell and Paula Maines, the local authority’s Lead on Community Safety.
Coun Stephen Lambert, Chair of the Kenton Ward committee, said:
”Tackling anti-social behaviour and boosting community safety is a key priority for Montagu and Kenton. That’s why we welcome the Crime Prevention morning open to all residents and traders across our neighbourhoods. We’re urging local people to drop in and get useful tips crime prevention tips from the EPiC team and their partners.’
”The crime prevention event will also focus on community consultation to make sure the voices of resident are held and acted on”.
