Dear editor

May I take this opportunity through North East Bylines  to thank all those Kenton Ward residents who backed me in the recent city council election.

Labour’s majority across the district went up by a creditable 12% from 2021 reflecting the hard work and dedication by the Kenton Labour Team. It’s been a privilege to represent residents of all political persuasions on the city council since 2002. Working closely with councillor colleagues Ged Bell and Paula Maines we’ve helped thousands of people over a range of issues. Over the next two years we aim to assist many more.

To date we’ve been able to:

  • Safeguard services for families and children.
  • Prioritise the environment by spending available cash on tackling litter, dog mess, fly-tipping and flooding.
  • Protect our Welfare Rights Project to keep it going for those in need. Over £1.3m has been claimed by the most vulnerable people.
  • Help secure funds from the Local Community Partnership to support community facilities and community work across North Kenton, Kenton Bar and Montagu.

The UK government is determined to press ahead with more yet more cuts to frontline public services.

Despite this we’ll be working hard with partner organisations by delivering:

  • Community litter picks with residents, churches, businesses, Urban Green and Clean Up UK.
  • Action to tackle anti-social behaviour involving the police, neighbourhood wardens and the EPiC Team.
  • Increased quality family services for young and old
  • Fully supported advice services including welfare rights, Citizens Advice, Search project and Kenton Food Bank;
  • Work with YHN tenants, private tenants and leaseholders to ensure their concerns are dealt with fairly and effectively.

Kenton’s Team comes from all walks of life, but we have one thing in common – we’re working hard to make Kenton and our city a great place to live, study and work.

Yours sincerely,

Coun Stephen Lambert,

Kenton Ward,

Newcastle City Council.
