When friends drop by

Well-thumbed books,
each re-reading rewarded.
Sometimes misplaced, never loaned,
for fear of some neglectful borrower.
Familiar songs,
words off by heart,
but always undiscovered
harmonies to find.
As comfortable as slippers,
as surprising as fireworks, 
as unexpected as a smile
in an unlit alley,
and welcome, always welcome,
always.
