This morning protestors outside Westminster sang “Bye Bye Boris” as a farewell song to the Prime Minister, as now a total of 13 ministers, including two cabinet ministers have resigned from Johnson’s government. The protestors, led by Steve Bray, known as Mr Stop Brexit are part of SODEM (Stand of Defiance European Movement).
This video is going viral this morning.
The campaigners have been protesting for over five years, initially with a pro-European Stop Brexit message, and now this has extended to wider issues. They are both concerned and angry about the level of government corruption and scandal that pervades Westminster at the current time.
The Bye Bye Boris Song
The Bye Bye Boris song is sung by Somerled Mackay, a musician and stand up comedian. (There is another version online which has been wrongly attributed to the SODEM protest.)
In January this year, Somerled Mackay happened to hear the Bye Bye Baby song, in the bath and just thought:
“I can’t not do it!”
Steve Bray heard about it and got in touch. Somerled sent him five versions, Steve chose one, and the rest as they say is history.
You can find Somerled on twitter and the video is the pinned tweet
Like many other musicians, Somerled used lockdown time to record and share music, including sea shanties online. Here are a selection.
