Indranil Banik

I did my undergraduate and masters degrees at Cambridge, where I focused on astrophysics and graduated in 2014. I then did my PhD at St. Andrews, where I graduated in 2018. Afterwards, I did a Humboldt fellowship in Bonn for three years and then returned to St. Andrews for another postdoc. My work focuses on whether galaxies really need massive halos of invisible mass to hold them together. I strongly suspect they do not, with the observations instead explained by a breakdown in Newton's law of gravity in the outskirts of galaxies. Gravity here is very weak and thus in a regime where its behaviour has not been directly tested.
