Middlesbrough Council is working with Groundwork North East & Cumbria on a masterplan for the park off Ormesby Road.
Improvements will focus on attracting more visitors by changing the ways the space can be used. It’s hoped the park will be able to host more varied sport and fitness activities. Safety and security measures will also be increased.
Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke said: “Pallister Park is in need of investment. We want the finished product to be a park that can be used by people of all ages for different activities.”
Cllr Peter Gavigan, Executive member for Environment and Sustainability at Middlesbrough Council, said: “The park has a proud history and now we need to plan seriously for how it can be best used in the future.
“We’ll be talking to the groups that use it now, local people and the ward councillors to take their opinions into account.”
Improving the park will contribute to the Council’s priority of making Middlesbrough a healthy town.
Pallister Park originally opened in 1929 after it was donated by the then councillor, Mrs J G Pallister. It was reopened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1993.
It’s expected a draft masterplan for the redevelopment of the park will be shared this summer.
