Progress has been made on the long-awaited Nunthorpe Community Centre, with Middlesbrough Council confirming a new timeline for the project. The proposed centre, set to be located next to the GP surgery on Stokesley Road, has faced delays, but the council has now outlined key dates, including a planning decision expected in June and construction set to begin in July if approval is granted.
Following setbacks, Middlesbrough Council has allocated an additional £500,000 to ensure the project is completed. The council aims to finalise a 25-year lease in June, with completion expected by January 2026.
Luke Myer MP said:
“This community centre is long overdue, and I welcome progress towards getting it built. People in Nunthorpe deserve high-quality local facilities, and I will continue working to ensure that this project is delivered without further delays.”
“This investment is a step forward, and I want to see the council stick to its commitments so that residents can finally benefit from a centre that has been promised for years.”
Mayor Chris Cooke said:
“It’s great to see that we’re finally getting progress on such a vital project. We’re committed to ensuring that residents have the services they need, as close to their doorstep as possible. This community centre will put us one step closer to achieving that goal in South Middlesbrough.”
