Nigel Farage seems to hate scrutiny. Any hint of a tricky question being asked and he disappears. Farage, man of the people, straight talker and a huge fan of asking the ‘hard questions’ of others, has pulled out of an interview on BBC.
Strange timing you would think, being just a few days out from local elections.
So why this particular one?
My view is that whilst Farage loves nothing more than the sound of his own voice, he hates being held to account and hates tough questions even more.
On this occasion he had five million reasons not to be interviewed on TV.
Avoiding interviews
If he had a good reason for the £5 million donation, he would have loved to do an interview and be able to embarrass the interviewer.
It is not the first time Farage has pulled out of interviews…
In 2024, he dodged one when it had been revealed that, a Reform candidate had posted in a blog that we should have remained neutral in the 2nd World War, and that women were the ‘sponger gender’ and should be denied healthcare.
In 2019, when he was leader of the Brexit Party, he decided to avoid scrutiny regarding a pact with the Conservative Party.
If you look back at the many interviews that have gone wrong over the years, with Farage getting riled up, rude and quite nasty, when he gets asked directly about subjects he doesn’t want you can see why he ducks them.
Farage has a number of tactics when asked about subjects he has no answer to.
Condescending/misogynistic to female reporters…calling Mishal Hussain ‘love’
Attack the interviewer…call them biased and rude.
Walking out of interviews seems to be one of his favourites.
